About me and my therapy practice
I am a counsellor, CBT psychotherapist and EMDR practitioner. The therapy is led by the client's needs and I work collaboratively with the client to reach the outcomes they want. I also use Guided Imagery/Visualisation, Mindfulness and breath work.
After an initial assessment we'll discuss a plan for your therapy, this of course can change as different needs emerge. If EMDR is required I do recommend weekly sessions.
Practice description
Life can throw many challenges at us, sometimes navigated well but at times can become overwhelming, and some help is welcome. As an experienced counsellor I have worked with adults and young people to help them find their way through emotional and mental distress. With an understanding of how issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and trauma impacts everyday life, I offer a confidential space to work with you to find relief from these emotional challenges. We often have a sense of how we want to be but can't get there alone, our thoughts often getting in the way.
Therapeutic techniques are chosen based on your current needs which include my Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, EMDR as well as Guided Imagery, Breathing/Relaxation techniques, Mindfulness . CBT can give you the tools not only short term but for future use if more challenges come your way and EMDR is an effective treatment for trauma and anxiety/panic.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for the client to share with me why they are seeking therapy and what they would like to get from it. This time together can help the client decide if they could work with me and in turn for me to evaluate if I am the right therapist for them and can offer what they need.
I may ask the client to complete a short well being questionnaire if it feels appropriate.
I do offer a free introductory 20 minute telephone chat if that is preferred before booking the first session.
