About me and my therapy practice

Thank you for stopping to read my profile, I truly hope I can work with you. I am a person-centred counsellor, specialising in grief/loss - this can be a recent bereavement or unanswered grief from years ago. Sometimes unanswered grief can result in depression or post traumatic distress. Loss can also include the breakdown of a relationship, the end of something which is important to you, or a change in life circumstances. We can work together using the basis of person-centred therapy, where you set the pace, together with the experience I have in grief counselling to help you to move forward.

Practice description

My practice was established during the pandemic, as I changed career after having been a teacher for over 20 years. After gaining my Masters in counselling and psychotherapy I worked on a voluntary basis for a hospice, a sixth form college and a charity for people who had experienced domestic abuse, this very quickly went remote, so Zoom and telephone have been a good way of working, which I still offer. I am now back to doing face to face work and I also offer walk and talk in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside where I live. I have a comfortable therapy room, or a sunny garden room where I work, so plenty of choice for you.  As well as using a person-centred approach I use some integrated methods too, such as genograms, which are a bit like a family tree, and help us to look at our family relationships more clearly; and transactional analysis, which looks at how we fall into patterns of learnt behaviour around those who are close to us. I believe everyone’s therapy is their own unique journey and I would feel very privileged to help you on yours.

My first session

The first session would be completing a short and clear agreement about how we wish to work together and what you hope to gain from therapy (if indeed you know!). If we are working remotely this can be emailed. I ask you to make a payment up to 24 hours prior to the session. You pay for one session at a time. You set the pace.
