About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Bernadette, and I provide on-line, telephone and face to face counselling. I am based in Bridport and Cardiff, and offer counselling within easy reach of local surroundings. This includes Dorchester, Honiton, Chard, Newport and Axminster, at locations of your choice by prior arrangement.

I am an experienced Person- Centred Counsellor,  meaning that I provide an environment that helps you to explore issues and problems, feelings, beliefs and behaviours in a way that enables you to move towards reaching and fulfilling your true potential.

Finding the right counsellor can be daunting, I offer a warm welcome, and a safe and supportive environment. I will not judge you, no matter what you bring to the session, and this will help build a trustworthy relationship where you are able to disclose anything that is troubling you. Your journey through counselling can help you recognise the bigger picture, make connections and help you move towards the life you want to live. This journey is known as ‘self- actualisation’, which I believe is  achievable for everyone.

I provide counselling to individuals and couples, and I have met and supported many incredible clients. My passion is to see people grow and develop, and I have counselled clients experiencing anxiety, depression, low mood, low- self- esteem, anger, loss & grief, agoraphobia, loneliness, traumatic life events and transitions, and couples experiencing relationship problems.

If you would like to find out further information, please call me on 07813108409, I am always happy to chat and explore if counselling is right for you. I adhere to COVID 19 government guidance which enables us both to stay safe.

I ascribe to the ethical value of providing clients with effective and confidential therapy, and work in accordance with the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists code of ethics.

Practice description

I support individuals and couples to help you work through problems that are troubling you now, or experiences from your past. I also provide creative counselling, meaning that you can explore issues using tools that support you to express experiences unique to you. Sometimes, we think the same thoughts, and experience the same emotions over  again, and get trapped in negative patterns. Creative counselling shifts us out of these patterns, leading to fresh perspectives, connections and insights. Creative tools are not essential, however, if you would like to give it a try, please let me know before, or during our session.

Shells and pebbles enables you to explore different parts of your ‘self’. This is helpful as sometimes we get ‘stuck’ as our thoughts and emotions are in conflict. When you select and place objects, it is very revealing, providing you with surprising insights and developing your self- awareness. Using tools helps when it is hard to put things into words in a way that accurately describes how you are feeling, especially if you are struggling to make sense of them. Using shells and pebbles can be easier than talking in instances when you naturally want to clam up  about something difficult. This type of therapy is useful for individuals and couples, and supports the exploration of  a range of issues.

Sand Trays Our brains like symbols and metaphors, and working with sand trays are ideal if you find it hard to talk about your emotions, or if you’re not even sure what they actually are. Placing  objects helps you build a picture, increasing your emotional self- awareness in a safe and confidential way.

Mood Cards are a way to help you explore things like joy, sadness, resentment, worry and stress. Using the cards helps you to define and understand your thoughts, feelings and emotions that cause the moods you experience.

My first session

Once we have agreed a time and location, I will email or post you a counselling contract, and this details what you can expect from sessions, and explains that what we talk about remains confidential.

I provide a very warm welcome, and create an environment that is based on trust and safety. The session will begin by you having opportunity to tell me what is troubling you. It is up to you what you would like to talk about, and the extent to which you talk about it in the first session. I provide a completely non- judgmental environment, and  will support you in exploring issues and problems and making fresh connections.
