About me and my therapy practice

Choosing a therapist is a daunting process, yet finding the right therapist for you is essential as this is often the most important aspect of the therapy. I am qualified and have over 15 years experience in the mental health field, yet this won’t be enough if we don't ‘gel’. While I am the professional, you know you better than anyone else, for this reason an assessment session (or 2) is vital for you to make the decision if you want to embark on the therapeutic journey with me.

People come to therapy for a variety of reasons: loss, abuse, depression, childhood trauma, lack of fulfilment, sexual identity, sexuality, relationship difficulties, infertility are all common ailments; these are mental health issues that many of the population suffer from. However that doesn't make them easy to talk about or easy to ‘fix’. Sometimes the therapy will be brief and the ‘problem’ sorted in a few sessions, though often it can be a long process. I usually work with people once a week, though sometimes clients benefit from the holding that twice-weekly sessions provide.

I have a psychology degree (BSc.Hons.), an advanced diploma in Psychodynamic counseling and a Ppostgraduate diploma in Integrative psychotherapy. I have worked for various NHS mental health organisations and charities.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer professional supervision for individuals and groups. I supervise both newly qualified (including therapists in training) and experienced therapists.

My supervision style is similar to my work as a psychotherapist. I am open and warm, encouraging yet also challenging. As a supervisor I aim to provide a safe space where we can can reflect on your clients. Where we can explore the thoughts and feelings that we are conscious of and allow space for those less conscious to make themselves heard. I see it as a creative (and sometimes chaotic) space where we work collaboratively. I will ask about your counter transference reactions and allow room to examine any parallel processes occurring between us.

While the ‘feeling’ aspect of therapy is the barometer of our work, it is important that it is grounded in theory. My training is integrative with an emphasis on soul, I use a range of theoretical teachings; particularly attachment, field theory, psychodynamic and Jungian concepts. While our trainings do not need to be the same, it may be useful if we have a common language, for this reason I recommend an assessment session to see if we both think we will work well together.

Groups

The group process in supervision can be extraordinary. I normally run groups in a particular style that brings the ‘system’ of the client into the room in a very alive way. For us to do this the group needs to be a safe place without judgement allowing each individual with in the group can feel secure enough to share their reactions.
