About me and my therapy practice
I'm an integrative counsellor, which means I have been trained in multiple approaches. This enables me to respond to your individual needs and work out what the best approach is to supporting you.
Ultimately, therapy is more successful if we have a connection with each other. We then use this relationship to help you understand yourself more and how you can take learning outside of the therapy room.
I believe in having a genuine relationship with clients; which means integrating all aspects of our personalities. We'll be transparent with each other, become more comfortable with uncomfortable emotions, use humour, be direct and challenging if needed, and most importantly accept each other for who and what we are. If judgements arise, we work these out so you can understand what is happening in your own life.
Practice description
I've worked in the mental health field for over 15 years and worked in a variety of practitioner roles as well as managing mental health services.
I'm trained in working with diverse client groups. I am culturally competent and an LGBTQ+ specialist; although I am always learning.
Particular issues I have worked comprehensive with include:
Sexuality, gender, relationships, anxiety & social anxiety, conflict, attachment issues, sexual assault, abuse, shame, imposter syndrome, mentoring and career development, procrastination, body image, anger. See below for a comprehensive list
My first session
We'll initially have a phone call, free of charge, to check this is the right thing for you. Counselling is not for everyone, and I'll be honest in this conversation with you about whether I am the right person for you.
In our first session we'll complete some paperwork, I'll explain counselling in a bit more detail and ask more questions that I usually do to get what information I need to start therapy effectively.
You should leave your first session understanding your rights, with a good idea of what counselling is, having explained why you're here for therapy, and feeling more prepared for your next session.
