Practice description
What does a counsellor do?
Counsellors help people to explore feelings and emotions that are often related to their experiences. This allows clients to reflect on what is happening to them and consider alternative ways of doing things. Working in a confidential setting, counsellors listen attentively to their clients and offer them the time, space, empathy and respect they need to express their feelings and perhaps understand themselves from a different perspective. The aim is to reduce confusion and enable clients to cope with challenges, or to make positive changes in their life where necessary.
Counsellors assist the client with the analysis of processes and problems that contribute to a reduced level of well-being. The processes involved could relate to childhood experiences or as a result of trauma or abuse. The therapeutic relationship that develops between a therapist and client offers a unique and confidential environment in which these complex processes can be safely approached.
How I work
I work relationally with clients using an integrative approach that utilises the most productive elements of popular types of therapy used today.
Its About You
I am committed to understanding your individuality and will tailor sessions to your requirements. I hold a Masters in psychological therapies alongside my counselling degree and can integrate different approaches to suit your needs. The sessions will be led by you and will always be individually tailored, professional and impartial.
What It’s Not
There are some misconceptions about what happens in counselling and for some there is a fear that if you don’t know what is ‘wrong’ then attending counselling won’t help. This isn't the case, there doesn't need to be a ‘reason’. If you don’t feel ‘right’, then talking things through will give you the space to gain some clarity on you're feelings.

Feel free to call me or message me for a chat/ to see how I can help you to live the life you want to live.

About me and my therapy practice
Hi my name is Claire Davey. I run Jigsaw Counselling Service. I am an experienced counsellor, supervisor and counselling tutor offering independent private counselling in the Scarborough and York area. I am a Senior Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am also a qualified clinical supervisor and EMDR Therapist. I have over 20 years’ experience in supporting people at times of difficulty who present with a number of different mental health issue.
Why you may be considering therapy
Individuals generally come to me if they are experiencing problems in the areas of work, relationships, health, grief and bereavement, depression or anxiety. However, there doesn't always need to be a reason to access therapy. Some clients attend sessions with me just because they feel something is wrong but are not sure what that is. Counselling can give you the space to talk things through and gain some clarity on your feelings.
I offer a safe environment in which you will be listened to and assisted in making sense of whatever brings you to counselling.
