About me and my therapy practice

(My offices are in N1 & W6)

Eudaimonia (Ευδαιμονια in Greek philosophy), whose Latin translation is Beata Vita (Happy Life), is an ancient term equivalent to Optimal Mental Health.

Also, the concept of Nirvana in Buddhism means the same thing.

How, then, can we attain Eudaimonia/Nirvana?

By means of right living, correct way of life, or authentic way of being in the world with others.

What is the right way of life?

Pursuing Ethical Values, such as Truth, Wisdom, and Humility – in other words, becoming more truthful, wiser, and humbler.

If growing in Truth, Wisdom, and Humility means something for you, then you have found the right person to be your fellow traveller.

I am tri-lingual (English, British Sign Language, and Korean).

Due to my hearing difficulty, I use a microphone/transmitter and a receiver when I work with hearing clients. For d/Deaf clients I use BSL and/or lipreading, while for d/Deaf-and-Blind clients Hands on signing. I offer online counselling only to BSL users.

About me and my therapy practice

A person’s mental health issues develop often from the experience of being in the situation of having limited, unwanted choices. So, an important part of psychotherapy/counselling treatment is helping clients discover alternative choices, encouraging them to see things from different perspectives: this is called philosophically ‘philosophizing’, while psychotherapeutically ‘mentalizing.’

Differences between repression (of emotions) and suppression are often overlooked. Unconsciously choosing to repress a person’s feelings, that person also limits his/her own choices of action. So, helping clients understand themselves better (especially in terms of repression) is another important part of how I treat them.

I am tri-lingual. I have been working online and face-to-face with the d/Deaf and the hearing in English, BSL, and Korean.

About me and my therapy practice

1) I use the Seven Eyed Model of supervision.

2) I am an UKCP accredited member as an Integrative Psychotherapist.

3) I have got a Phd in philosophy before my training in MA, Psychotherapy at Regent’s University London. So, I can easily work as an Existential Psychotherapist.

4) Emotional dysregulation is the crux of all mental health issues, and is intrinsically an important part of self-relationship. Initially, clients talk about their relationships with other people and things (e.g., their bodies/health, traumatic events in which they were involved, etc.) and at this stage I try to help them in terms of dyadic-regulation. Gradually, I shift the centre of gravity towards talking about clients' self-relationships, to which many of them fail to pay any attention. Helping clients re-establish their self-relationships, I endeavour to strengthen their ability to self-regulate emotions so that they can become emotionally more resilient.

5) In understanding the client’s/supervisee’s material the application of hermeneutic circle (i.e., a dialogical relation between the part and the whole in texts: we have to refer to the whole to understand the parts and the parts to understand the whole [e.g. in understanding sentences and the words within them]) is crucial. This is to say that I always endeavour to understand a client in a wider context of that client in terms of, e.g., relationship, environment, sexuality, etc.
