Practice description
My counselling supervision sessions are process driven, working with 'what is in the room'. This makes it particularly suitable for experienced counsellors who are confident about their own methods of working, but value a (sometimes challenging) sounding board.
This approach is also useful for non-counsellors in other 'people' professions, and for group work with teams in organisations. I have wide-ranging experience in this area of work.
I emphasise the supportive function of supervision in all my work, believing strongly that we must care for the carer in order to care for the client.
My first session
Whether with groups or individuals, counsellors or other professionals, I believe in establishing a good agreement for how we will work together in the first session. So some time will be spent discussing what both parties want and expect, and this will include fees, timings, what happens if sessions are cancelled etc . Supervision is a relationship and both myself and my supervisees should let our instincts speak to us about whether we will 'click' - I am not the right supervisor for everyone!
