About me and my therapy practice
“Life really begins at forty. Up until then, you are just doing research” (Carl Jung).
I specialise in midlife crossroads, confusion and crisis!
I deliver a unique hybrid of psychological coaching and therapy, focused specifically on the challenges and opportunities of midlife and beyond.
I work with men and women (normally aged 40 and above) looking to find meaning, purpose and authenticity in the second half of life.
Sometimes this work involves changing external life conditions, at other times it involves changing internal beliefs. Often, it’s a combination of both.
Coaching can fall prey to overpromising transformational change and underselling the hard work that change takes. I deliver a truly realistic approach where we work with your strengths, limitations and personal quirks – not against them. Even the smallest step towards a goal can have a profound effect on your sense of wellbeing and confidence.
I am passionate about my role as a psychological coach and it is always a joy to get to know my clients and witness them moving towards a more authentic life
I am a qualified CBT therapist with additional expertise in Solution Focused Coaching. I also incorporate Jungian concepts, Mindfulness and guided imagery (a form of relaxing hypnosis) which helps to soften deeply held negative belief patterns. I am deeply influenced by the work of Carl Jung, James Hollis, Alan Watts and Milton Erickson.
Practice description
This work is about depth, integration, honesty and individuality. I offer a truly bespoke approach but coaching often touches on the following areas:
- a deep exploration of who you are (outside of your roles and responsibilities)
- specifying what you truly want (not just what society expects of you)
- understanding mental blocks (negative belief patterns and unmet needs)
- getting what you truly need (in a way that’s achievable and right for you)
Some of the tools we may use in our work together:
- Mindfulness
- Goal setting
- Behavioural experiments
- Cognitive reframing
- Breathing exercises
- Guided imagery (a form of relaxing hypnosis)
- Psychoeducation (including neuroscience and neuropsychology)
I take your wellbeing and time commitment seriously. I offer regular review sessions to ensure you are happy with the direction of travel in our work together. I uphold the strictest standards of confidentiality and adhere to both the BACP Ethical Framework for Counselling and the BACP Coaching Competence Framework. To maintain ethical and effective practice, I undertake regular supervision with a dual qualified BACP Therapist & Coach. I look forward to working with you.
