About me and my therapy practice

I qualified in 2001 from University of Strathclyde as a counsellor;

The approach I trained in was humanistic, person centred - with the key focus on building a relationship, and helping individuals explore their own issues, and gain more insight and awareness through looking at childhood issues, and the impact they have on their current lives.

I  worked in trauma counselling for several years, focusing on helping clients find a safe space, to allow them to process traumatic events of the past.  This experience has led to an interest in trauma, and how it impacts on our ability to cope with the world.

Working for an Employee Assistance Programme for 9 years, gave me a broad experience in short term, solution focused therapy, as well as being able to work online and by telephone.  I also worked with critical incidents/ crisis teams and helped employees and organisations  build resilience to trauma.

In 2013 I completed my Cognitive Behavioural therapy diploma - as I felt that it was a an evidence based approach to treating anxiety, depression and a wide range of mental health issues, that my clients were presenting with.

Subsequently I have added Compassion focused therapy into my practice, which incorporates many different approaches including CBT, evolutionary biology, attachment theory and mindfulness.
