About me and my therapy practice
My practice offers online Psychotherapy for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples. I have a MA in Psychotherapy and over 15 years experience working with; shame, trauma, anxiety, anger, stress, navigating relationships, communication, sex and sexuality, fear, body dysmorphia, and self-doubt.
As an openly Gay man I offer an opportunity to explore freely and safely your experiences of sexuality, gender and difference as well as supporting you in exploring what might getting in the way of you feeling as confident or at ease within yourself as you would like. How would you really like to feel?
Before training as a therapist I worked as a designer and I now have an art practice. Creativity plays a big part of my approach and I believe that talking through your challenges and difficulties does not have to be a harrowing experience. There are also enjoyable ways in which to explore deep issues and develop clarity and understanding.
The aim of my practice is to discover together whatever it is that is causing distress at the moment and then to find the best and sustainable ways that will get you to where you would like to be. I see our work as a collaboration. Clients often report feeling more stable and secure within themselves, their lives and relationships and that Psychotherapy didn't turn out to be the scary experience they'd expected it to be.
Practice description
As a relational therapist we talk to each other. I don't stare at you and not speak but I do give you a lot of space to figure things out whilst feeling supported. Coming to therapy is about dealing with the struggle of being human and I am a human too.
I offer weekly 50 minute sessions and also twice weekly if there is a need for this and if I have the time.
Generally, we are looking at the narrative of your life. What is that makes you you? What makes you tick? What works? What needs adjusting? What's missing? We may follow particular themes or we may work more organically. I encourage you to turn up and say whatever you would like and then to trust me to do my job, which is to reflect, contain and offer observations that may help you see things differently or in new ways.
I also offer homework and exercises for those who would like this.
My first session
In the first session we get to know each other a little, look at what brings you to therapy, what you are hoping to get out of it and to check that working with me is the right direction for you. There is no requirement to commit and you may want to go away and think about it. If you feel you would like to give it a go I offer 4 initial sessions as a trial period so you have plenty of time to test the waters.
