About me and my therapy practice
I started training as a therapist 20 years ago, working with adults and young people as a humanistic and systemic family practitioner. I have since discovered and trained as a EMDR therapist. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, a system of psychotherapy originally developed to help individuals heal from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is evidence based, approved by NICE guidelines and the World Health Organisation. It is also extremely effective helping adults and children deal with anxiety, depression, negative belief systems and low self worth. Our self esteem is created or at least impacted from interpretations of experiences and if those experiences have been negative it can affect how we see ourselves and world around us. Traumatic and overwhelming memories are stored in maladaptive memory networks, these networks do not integrate with adult networks causing adults to act in seemingly irrational ways.
I work from a studio at the side of my house. I have parking on the verge to my sign. It is a wonderful quiet space but you do need to be able to drive to reach me. It's my own private office so I am able to offer flexible meeting times.
