My heart lies primarily with helping children and young people to thrive. and this has involved working in educational settings supporting those who had an alternative way of working and therefore found education challenging. 15 years in education brought my attention to the social and wellbeing needs of so many young people. This drove my determination to train in an area that could provide additional social and emotional support, with an aim to help young people to be open about their emotions and develop tools and strategies to manage and prevent childhood problems becoming adult problems.
I am now a fully qualified counsellor with a Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling. I also have a diploma in Counselling Children and Young People and a diploma in Cognitive behavioural therapy.
I'm a registered BACP member.

Practice description
As an integrative trained counsellor, I integrate therapies that are tailored to needs and process of the clients journey.
My working model is to help clients identify and explore their challenge, begin to understand the roots and drive of those challenges so they can work towards implementing change. Where appropriate I use a solution focused approach to create achievable and measurable goals. This is particularly effective for short-term therapy of 6-8 sessions.
I find creative interventions such as sand trays, metaphors and art can be very effective in helping children and young people to access and connect with their emotions in a gentle way.
I work with adults and children from secondary school age and upwards. I gained clinical experience working with Young Devon supporting 18-25 year olds and alongside providing in-school counselling. I gained adult experience in placement with SAFE providing counselling support for victims of domestic abuse.
