About me and my therapy practice

Maybe you've tried therapy before, and it didn't help much. I'm sure that some days it just seems easier to stay in bed with the curtains drawn, so you don't have to face the world. I know how frustrating that feels, to have "lost" something from the way you used to be and to not know what it is exactly, that you've lost - to feel incomplete in some way and to not have the words to describe exactly what you are experiencing. Many have told me that I am the first therapist, who has actually given them tools to cope better, rather than allowing them to "just vent." Most begin to find relief within only a few short sessions with me.

Very often I hear from clients that other therapists they have had "just listened" and "didn't really help me work through anything." There is a reason for this: not all therapies are created equally. I use therapy methods, which were specifically designed for conditions like depression and anxiety, and which have consistently proven effective.

I know that making that initial phone call is a difficult thing to do, but don't give up just yet. Most of my clients tell me after only a few short months that they no longer need my help, and this is my aim as a therapist - to give you the tools you need to fly solo. I look forward to getting to know you and helping you become the person you want to be.

Practice description

As an openly gay man, I often work with clients, who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or queer. However, I also regularly work with those outside of the LGBTQ community and have done so since 2010. Licensed to practise as a counsellor in the U.S. states of Texas, Florida and Connecticut in addition to my accreditation status with BACP, I have worked with a wide variety of client concerns throughout my career--in private practise, hospital settings, and community mental health settings.

I have Level 2 training with the Gottman Institute--one of the foremost authorities on couples counselling and therapy. Additionally, I have completed past training with the Beck Community Initiative--a division of the Beck Institute--in treatment of depression with cognitive-behavioural therapy.

I offer confidential counselling services to individuals and couples throughout the United Kingdom via telehealth, allowing you to receive the care and attention you deserve from the comfort of your own home or office.

What past clients have said about their work with me:

"Not only is Brian good at what he does, but his understanding and genuineness speaks volumes. He's helped me put so many things in perspective, and I actually feel more confident for it. So, thank you for helping me find some of my confidence again, Brian. I almost forgot what it looked like."

"Brian was fantastic as a counselor; I’m actually kind of sad we were able to work through my issues because he’s such a pleasure to talk to. His skills in pinpointing the underlying cause of my issues was awesome, and he did a great job of balancing letting me talk and talking to me about developing tools to deal. The resources he provided were a huge help and I’ve got them saved for future review if I have issues crop up later. Highly recommend Brian if you’re serious about getting yourself on the right path."

My first session

Prior to our initial session, I will have you to complete some new client paperwork, which gives me some basic information about you, your goals for counselling and some information regarding our policies. These are completed conveniently and quickly online and only require an electronic signature from you.

If you are seeking couples counselling, I will also have you and your partner to complete an online assessment, which gives me additional information on your relationship. This assessment requires a one-time payment of $39.00 USD to Gottman Connect--a division of The Gottman Institute--but gives me a wealth of relevant information about your relationship's strengths and challenges.
