About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome, my name is Tara. If you're here then you may be going through something difficult - but know that you don't need to go through it alone.

I'm an experienced and qualified counsellor with a history of working with a variety of issues including: depression, anxiety, relationship problems (couples and families), ADHD, low self-esteem, anger, bereavement, dissociative disorders, and much more.

Regardless of what you're going through, I believe that you and your situation are unique. Because of that, it's important that you're treated as an individual, with your therapy tailored to your needs.

To make that happen, I have specialised in inclusive, up-to-date counselling theories at an advanced level so that we can work together to effectively get you from where you are, to where you want to be - in a way that suits you. If interested, you can find a list of therapies I work with down below and helpful information on my website.

Practice description

Above all, I strive to provide warmth, care, validation, safety, coping strategies, empowerment, and a non-judgmental space in which you can learn to thrive instead of survive. In short, I aim to help you to become the best, healthiest version of you.

The way we work together will be determined by your goals and what type of counselling works for you. For example, some people may need a space to vent their feelings and seek validation, with their therapist mostly just listening. However, others may want a more direct approach from their therapist, with them giving more input into the sessions and working on ways to actively move forward together. I can work in both ways to suit your needs.

During your free consultation, the first few sessions, and periodically throughout your therapeutic journey, we will talk together to discover what works for you, and ensure we're working in the way that feels right for you.

My first session

Before the First Session

After you have had your free consultation and we have agreed to work together, I will send you an online contract for you to read and sign (set aside around 10 minutes for this). This contract is standard practice in counselling and details what is expected of us both during our time together, such as behaviour and what happens if you need to rearrange a session etc. You are free to contact me to ask any questions you have about this.

During the Session

During our first session, we will quickly summarise the contract to make sure that you understand everything and are happy. I will then ask what it is you would like to talk about, and we go from there. The first session is mostly about getting to know one another, relieving some nerves, and getting a good understanding of what has brought you to counselling. That way, we can give you a non-judgemental space to offload some of what you are carrying whilst setting the ground for working together in future sessions.
