We’re delighted to welcome you to our free in-person Making Connections events. These regular face to face conferences will take place throughout the year and give you the chance to network with other members and our divisional executive members.

This workshop will provide strategies that therapists can use with adults and young people to manage risk safely and effectively, through presentation and individual exercises.

Self-harm can be difficult to talk about, both for clients and for the professionals supporting them. Practitioners may feel pressure to assess risk, prevent further harm and make safeguarding decisions, while also preserving trust and creating a therapeutic relationship in which the client feels heard rather than monitored or judged. Fear, stigma and uncertainty can lead conversations to focus primarily on stopping the behaviour, potentially overlooking the distress, meaning and unmet needs that sit beneath it.

This workshop will explore the impact of working creatively and the effects this might have on the therapeutic alliance. Video demonstrations will enable you to observe first-hand how to work with symbols, fairy tales and pictures in counselling.
