I am undertaking research as part of my Masters in Clinical Counselling at the University of Chester. I want to examine the experience of person-centred training on counsellors’ episodes of depression, specifically reviewing the impact of personal development requirements, placement and work/life/study balance. I then want to explore and discuss the positive and negative impact this may have had on your future practice.

Your active participation and contribution within this research study will provide an insight for future trainees coming into the counselling profession, those involved in counselling training itself, and those in practice who have experienced depression. I would appreciate your time, insight and reflections of your experiences with depression whilst in your training and your thoughts on if / how this has influenced your counselling practice. If you would like to take part, you will be asked to take part in a face-to-face semi-structured interview, lasting approximately 60 minutes.

If you are a qualified person-centred counsellor who experienced episodes of depression during your training and are keen to take part, or you would like further information about my research, please do not hesitate to contact me, Barbara Stafford-Cairns.

My research has been given ethical approval by the University of Chester Ethics Committee and I am committed to complying with the BACP Ethical Framework.
